Blue Coat welcomes applications from students from both state and independent schools. All prospective students are interviewed to build up a picture of their academic strengths and co-curricular interests and are also required to undertake academic aptitude assessments.
Blue Coat’s Sixth Form consists of more than 250 students, of whom at least one third are girls.
The curriculum is widespread, with 23 subjects on offer, as well as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), designed specifically to develop the students’ skills and interests in preparation for either university or the work place.
All Blue Coat students are encouraged to become involved in the many co-curricular activities on offer in order to broaden their experience and enjoyment of school life.
To qualify for the Sixth Form at Blue Coat, students are expected to attain at least eight GCSEs at C grade (or equivalent) or above, with four of these at B grade or above and two of these at A grade or above. To study Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Modern Languages or Physics at A level, students should have at least an A grade at GCSE or its equivalent. To study Economics, students should have at least an A grade in Mathematics. All students are required to have passed both English Language and Mathematics at C grade or above. More details of exact course requirements may be found in the Sixth Form Options book 2018-2020, which will be published in September 2017.
Entry for 2018
Registration for 2018 is open. Parents and students are often caught out by the fact that the admission round for Sixth Form is completed early in Year 11 so that students are not distracted in the run up to their GCSEs. We received record numbers of applications for 2017 entry, so recommend early application for 2018 entry. Interviews and assessments will take place in November 2017 and offers will be made on 1st December 2017. All offers are conditional upon students meeting the entry requirements set out above.
The closing date for applications is 9am on Friday 17th November 2017 .
A second round of applications may be considered in February 2018 subject to availability. Unsuccessful applicants from the first round should not reapply.
Please note the closing date for Bursary applications is 31st October 2017.
