The APO is a registered UK charity that promotes classical music in the local area by: providing low ticket prices as well as free tickets for people who have never seen a live orchestra before, commissioning at least one new work from a talented young composer every year, rehearsing for two weekends (22 hours in total)  before each concert to allow local musicians who can’t make weekly rehearsals the chance to play (which means many more young people at the beginning of busy non-musical professional careers get the chance to play), and organising musical education and cultural events to support the orchestral performances.
