Bake Off raises money for MIND mental health charity

There was a very impressive turnout of delicious-looking cakes, brownies, biscuits – and even fudge – at our Blue Coat Bake Off on February 7th, and the judges – Headmaster Mr Elzinga, Year 13s Alex Kotelawala, Joe Johnstone and James Cadwallader (all from Aldworth), and Sodexo chefs Adam and Lewis – had a tough time ‘working’ their way  through the 20-plus offerings to decide on the winners!

The standard was so high that the judges chose two winners – and a very close runner up. Congratulations go to the winners: Year 8 Freddie Carter-Shaw for his red velvet cake (about which the Headmaster said: ‘this is so good, it shouldn’t be legal!’) and Year 7 Barnaby Grandin for his delicious Victoria sponge, filled with cream and fresh strawberries – and runner-up, Year 8 Matt Kirk for his rather spectacular fishbowl cake.

Mr Edmondson was the only member of staff who entered the Bake Off, with his fabulous Victoria sponge.

The bakers paid £1 for each entry and the cake that remained after the judging was sold at lunchtime – and the total raised for Aldworth’s House charity, MIND, was £141.92.
