Mr Jesse Elzinga

Mr Jesse Elzinga joined Blue Coat as Headmaster in September 2016. He had been Director of Studies at Harrow School and, prior to this, he was Director of Studies at St Edward’s School, Oxford. He started teaching Theology and Philosophy at Whitgift School in 2002 and was later Assistant Head of Sixth Form there.

In 2001, Mr Elzinga gained a BA Honours degree cum laude in Comparative Religion from Harvard University, and this was followed by an MSt from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan, USA, where he attended a large local state school, and is the only student in the school’s history to go to Harvard. Whilst at Harvard, he captained Varsity Lightweight Rowing, twice winning the national championship in the eight. Mr Elzinga is both a British and an American citizen, and he is excited by the opportunity to return to a rowing school.

Mr Elzinga and his wife, Elaina, have two young daughters and live in the Headmaster’s house on the School site.
