When he was at university in Manchester, Head of Chemistry Mike Jerstice says he enjoyed “scattering contact explosives over the floor for people to walk over.” Fortunately, that obsession is the thing of the past, but his love of Chemistry has lived on and has led to his becoming a Science teacher. Mike attended Desborough College in Maidenhead before studying Chemistry at Manchester, and going on to do his teacher training at Oxford Brookes University. He taught for two years at Stockport Grammar School, before joining Blue Coat.
In addition to teaching, Mike is involved with U13 rugby and football, the Science Club and Wilderness Expertise. A few years ago, he led a group of students travelling in Nepal and enjoyed “watching the students develop their leadership skills.” He still plays rugby – and enjoys playing the guitar.
