Katie – Year 13 Prefect
Year 13 Prefect Katie joined Blue Coat from a local independent school in September 2016. Having looked around at a few Sixth Form options, and attending a few Open events, Katie chose Blue Coat because “I liked the structure – and the different level of interaction between teachers and students.”
Katie’s A Level choices include Biology, Maths and Psychology, which will help her to attain her goal of becoming a nurse; she hopes to study Midwifery and Childcare at university – probably at Swansea, East Anglia, Oxford Brookes or Bournemouth. Katie believes that, in addition to helping her to “grow and mature as a person”, Blue Coat has helped her to “get a handle on what I want to do with my life” because of the guidance she has received and the options she has learned about in Careers sessions at the School.
Since joining Blue Coat, Katie has thrown herself into the co-curricular life of the School; she plays hockey, netball and rounders and was involved in last year’s musical production, “Grease”, as well as House Drama. In addition to being voted a Prefect this year, she was selected by the Sixth Form team to become a Peer Mentor. “I’m really enjoying the Peer Mentoring”, Katie says. “I enjoy the interaction with the younger students – and the sense of helping other people”.
